A power outage at the College of San Mateo forced the cancellation of classes Monday, but officials expect that classes will be up and running again today.
CSM spokesman Mike Habeeb said the college originally expected night classes to resume as scheduled on Monday, but the outage — likely due to a blown fuse in one of the campus power control centers — was not rectified in time.
Habeeb was unsure how many classes were affected, but the college has 11,000 students and approximately 60 percent of them attend classes in the daytime from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For updates, campus administrators ask that people call (650) 574-6161 or check the college’s Web site at collegeofsanmateo.edu.
In order to properly diagnose the problem, Habeeb said campus facilities personnel had to power down the whole campus, which was without electricity all day.
Telecourses and distance courses were not affected by the outage, Habeeb said.
