When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to work at a summer camp in San Pedro.It gave me a chance to be a leader at a young age. It also made me a responsible young guy, since I was in charge of about 20 kids. I think I got more out of it than the kids. Because of this experience, and a few others, I was motivated to become a teacher and have had a very rewarding career as an educator.

The California State University system was built as the vehicle to propel young people toward the American dream. California’s working- and middle-class families could confidently send their children to a CSU school, knowing they would be able to receive a quality, low-cost education at a four-year university. The CSU system has often been looked at as a realistic alternative for many when compared to the University of California system, which is nearly twice as expensive.

You may soon be asked to sign an innocuous-sounding petition urging The City to develop “a sustainable water supply.” A laudable goal and one that San Francisco voters and city leaders have already committed to and are spending billions of dollars to achieve.But don’t be fooled. Camouflaged in the petition’s language is the real goal of this measure: to drain the Bay Area’s largest and most important source of drinking water and clean energy — the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir.
