Prop. 30 will help Brown, not students

I read with dismay the article about Proposition 30 and Gov. Jerry Brown (“Passage of tax increases spells big win for governor,” Thursday). On the cover, the subheading read: “Governor says taxes will pave way to state fiscal stability.” In the story it then says that, “The changes will provide $6 billion to balance the state budget.” Read More

Storm shows effect of climate change

I am afraid that Superstorm Sandy is just a small glimpse of what we, our children and our grandchildren will see, experience and try to survive in the future. Sandy truly serves as a wake-up call for all of us. Scientists and meteorologists say Sandy, similar to recent hurricanes and storms, is, in part, a display of the consequences of global warming. Private park events freeze out the public

Your paper’s stance embracing privatization and commercialization of our parks fails to address the major problem of funding (“The real problem in parks department is shrinking funding,” Editorial, Sunday). Read More

Prop. A will let CCSF keep shaping our city

City College of San Francisco makes dreams a reality. We support, shape and educate you, your family, your friends, your neighbors and your co-workers. We educate everyone. No matter what, it’s not surprising that one in 10 San Franciscans have sat in a City College classroom. But that could change dramatically. We need your help now. Support Proposition A, the CCSF parcel tax. Read More

Rec and Park would waste Prop. B funds

The Recreation and Park Department’s misleading TV ads for Proposition B conveniently leave out hidden rent increases for city tenants. Prop. B specifies that landlords can pass Prop. B  tax increases on to unsuspecting tenants. That’s just one reason why the San Francisco Tenants Union opposes Prop. B, along with many other community groups who have firsthand experience with the current regime at Rec and Park. Read More

Bike path plan too costly

Is writer Will Reisman aware that there is a perfectly good, safe bike route on Page Street that is parallel to and one block away from the dreaded “jam-packed” Oak Street (Bike plan rolling into City Hall,” Monday)? Read More

Wrong track on Central Subway

Wrong, wrong, wrong on the insane Central Subway project (“Central Subway will move city in right direction,” Editorial, Monday). I’m disappointed The San Francisco Examiner missed the chance to lead on this. Your editorial claims that opponents didn’t make the case for a better solution to an acknowledged problem. I’ve sat in on SaveMuni meetings where this was discussed in great detail, and their website is replete with documentation. Read More

SFMTA land deal is far from a ‘fumble’

The characterizations in your article regarding the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s proposed lease of 2650 Bayshore Blvd. (“S.F. revisits its fumbled land deal,” Friday) were unfortunately both inaccurate and misleading.   Read More

Prop. B would reward fiscal irresponsibility

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department claims that passing a third — and largest yet — bond to renovate more parks is an “investment.” What the heck do they think decades and decades of taxes and nearly $350 million in bonds in recent memory have been going toward? Read More

End Mirkarimi case by reinstating sheriff

When police officers shoot and kill an unarmed person, they are suspended with pay for the duration of the investigation. What the people of San Francisco have witnessed for 10 months now has been aninquisition-like persecution of our elected sheriff. Read More
