Los Angeles school police Officer Jeff Stenroos was convicted of falsely claiming he was shot while on patrol.

His tale had set off a massive manhunt and caused 9,000 students to be held in their schools for hours.

Prosecutors charged that Stenroos deliberately shot himself in his bulletproof vest to win fame and get medical leave.

He now faces more than five years in prison.
