Needless operation leaves man in need of 24-hour care

DIM BULB: A British National Health Service surgeon mistakenly removed a healthy part of a patient’s brain during an operation that was not even necessary. As a result, former paramedic John Tunney suffered permanent brain damage, lost part of his sight and memory, and requires 24-hour care. The operation was supposed to be a brain tumor biopsy, but blood tests afterwards revealed that the tumor was harmless and could have been controlled with drugs.
