Murderer sues state after his resuscitation

A convicted murderer is suing Colorado for saving his life after his heart stopped beating. Daniel Self, 54, said he suffers from sleep apnea and had instructed prison guards not to resuscitate him if he stopped breathing. His federal lawsuit charged that prison officials disregarded his right to refuse medical treatment. Self said death would be a welcome relief after being convicted in 2003 of killing a 24-year-old pregnant woman.
