Japanese reconstruction minister resigns one week into job

Japan’s first disaster-reconstruction minister resigned in tears one week after his appointment. Ryu Matsumoto was bombarded by criticism that he was rude to local officials on a weekend trip to the tsunami-ravaged northeast coast. Matsumoto berated a local governor who was late to a meeting, and refused to shake hands. He also threatened to withhold aid to any municipalities that did not have good ideas about rebuilding.
