Pakistan’s military establishment is reeling from the shock of how easy it was for six Taliban fighters to storm a naval air base and hold it for 16 hours, killing 12 naval personnel and injuring 14. The raiders crippled Pakistan’s anti-submarine warfare capability by destroying two new US-supplied P-3C Orion maritime surveillance aircraft. Former brigadier general Ghazanfar Ali said the successful Taliban attack would “hurt Pakistan’s reputation as a nuclear weapons state.”
