WHAT: Outdoor Adventures of Whistler, British Columbia, did not see the sled-ride boom it expected after Canada’s 2010 Winter Olympics, so employees shot and killed the company’s sled dogs over two days.

WHY IT’S OUTRAGEOUS: Most dogs died instantly in full view of the others, but some suffered and had to be chased down to be killed. The B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals called the case its worst animal abuse case ever.

WHAT’S BEING DONE: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the slaughter. Criminal charges are expected to be filed soon.
