WHO: American Honda Motor Co.
WHAT: The Torrance-based company recalled approximately 18,500 snowblowers due to a potential fire hazard, just two days after the arrival of one of the worst winter storms in decades. No fires have been reported, but the company has received reports of fuel either seeping or dripping. The fuel-tank joint and O-ring on the underside can allow fuel to escape.
WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: Honda said customers should immediately stop using the $2,000-plus snowblowers and bring them to a dealer for free repairs, but the fix is sure to frustrate the customers who need the equipment the most — those in the East buried under a massive blizzard.
