WHAT: Lawmakers used statements written by lobbyists for South San Francisco biotech firm Genentech in the House debate on the health care bill, according to The New York Times.

WHY IT HAPPENED: While Genentech and parent company Roche have made contributions to some of the members who filed the company’s statements in the official congressional record, the company has denied any connection between the statements and the donations.

WHY IT’S A BAD IDEA: Elected representatives are supposed to be representing their constituents, not corporate lobbyists.
