Don’t ignore hate crimes against whites

By: Gregory Kane
July 17, 2009

By Marty Marshall must be wondering what he’s got to do to get a little love from a U.S. senator.

This is a tale of two stories. Both are about race. It’s a tale of how we perceive and define hate crimes, and of how the media cover matters of race.

On June 27, only two days after Attorney General Eric Holder told members of Congress how hate crimes “victimize entire communities,” Marshall and his family were victimized in a hate crime themselves. It might be at this point that you’re wondering why you’ve never heard of this story.

It’s because Marshall and his family are white, of course, and their victimizers are black. Marshall and his family live in Akron, Ohio. They were walking home from a fireworks display with a friend when they were attacked by a group of black teens. Marshall spent five days in the hospital recovering from his injuries — a concussion and bruises to his head and eye, according to news reports — and his daughter suffered a cut on her lip.

Marshall, his wife, daughter and other victims told police that the attackers shouted things like “this is a black world” and “this is our world” during the attack. Akron police have not called the attack a hate crime, but Mayor Don Plusquellic sent a letter to the FBI asking the agency to determine if any civil rights violations or hate crimes were committed.

A few hundred miles to the east, in the Philadelphia suburb of Huntington Valley, more than 60 children — most of them black — were asked to leave the Valley Swim Club. According to news reports, some of the children say white club members made racist remarks about them.

The children attend the Creative Steps Day Camp in Philadelphia. According to Aletha Wright, the camp’s director, testy white parents removed their children from the pool after the campers arrived. Wright said in news reports that she heard one woman say she would see to it that the campers didn’t return.

Wright said Creative Steps paid more than $1,900 to the club for the campers to swim Mondays. But all were asked to leave the pool and the money was refunded.

Club representatives said there was more misunderstanding than racism going on. They said they had no idea the number of campers would be as high as 65 and that the children were asked to leave the pool for safety reasons, not racism. Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen “Turncoat” Specter felt the incident was serious enough to claim that the day camp’s accusations were “extremely disturbing,” according to news reports. He promised to “look into” the matter.

There is no word, as of yet, about whether any U.S. senator has weighed in on the plight of Marshall and his family.

A quick quiz, one you will easily pass: Which of these two stories has been repeated all this week on one Baltimore television station? Yes, the day camp story has been covered multiple times, even with clips of pitiful, victimized black children bemoaning their racist treatment repeated several times.

No, I’m not trying to minimize the impact a racist act might have on a child. I’m not even sure I buy the defense that Valley Swim Club reps are presenting. Philadelphia and its surrounding suburbs have never impressed me as oases of racial tolerance.

It was in a Philadelphia suburb that, several years ago, one white hospital patient demanded that no black nurse attend her, and hospital administrators were stupid enough to comply with the demand.

But let’s have a little perspective here. The kids in the Creative Steps Day Camp may have been hurt emotionally, but Marshall and his family got BEAT DOWN. And it happened for no other reason than the color of their skin.

In the days before Americans let left-wing loonies hijack the English language, that would have been called racism. But these days we have black leaders like the Rev. Jesse Jackson telling blacks that they can’t be racist. With leaders spouting such nonsense, is it any wonder a group of black teens would attack whites and shout things like “this is our world” and “this is a black world”?

Here is a question for the Jesse Jacksons of America: If the attack on Marty Marshall and his family wasn’t racism or a hate crime, then what, exactly, was it?

Were we not promised that we would no longer be attacked for being white if only we elected a black president? Wasn't that implied by the democrats?

The promised racial harmony was a LIE! If the 2010 elections aren't a big loss for democrats, eventually it will be open season on whites in the US. I've made plans to leave if it gets worse. There are still many nations where whites are accepted and even welcome.

I don't think the day will ever come in the US when hate crimes will be recognized and treated as equally serious when they are against someone targetted for being white, or male, or straight, or conservative, or Christian.

About a year ago, a young white couple, were tortured and murdered by black thugs and it was a one day story. It's no wonder that black "youths" feel enpowered by what happened last November. Even the infamous "right-wing" FOX news didn't provide real coverage regarding this family being beaten and terrorized on the 4th of July! But then, Michael Jackson died, so guess that was a far more relevant story, as there's only so much time in the 24-hour news cycle. Disgraceful.

My son is now in serious counseling for being attacked in bed at five in the morning by three black thugs who invaded his house by kicking the door down. They beat him up, choked him and took his money, valuables and all that they could carry. My son is a white (we need to say that these days because the black scourge is ignored as being racial) works in a hospital in the emergency room treating everyone who comes in, including black criminals. He was followed home and he was attacked because he has a job and could have money.

He hates blacks, and lives in a constant nightmare. His larynx was seriously damaged. His scars on the inside has done serious damage to his psyche. When have we heard of three white guys busting into a black guy's home looking for anything of value, mainly money. It's always the other way around and its never a hate crime. Yeah, right and the NAACP is not for colored people.

I forgot to tell you how much? $9,000.00 His watches, rings, and electronic equipment went with them. Let's say they left with about $45,000.00 worth of stuff that he works long and hard hours in the hospital, sometimes pulling double shifts and crime is bringing in the hoodlums from the black community. He saves lives and his payoff was?

well, Im glad to see some of us are waking up. The next question to be asked is, "why doesnt the main stream media cover these stories?" The only advice I would give to those I care about is be prepared at all times, and if you find yourself the victim of this scourge use whatever force is necessary to preserve life and property. P.S. I am a white male, and proud of my heritage...thanks.

Prejudices facilitate knee-jerk judgments.

Mr Marshall's daughter Rachel told WKYC, "A couple of them, not the whole group, said 'it's a black world, it's our world.'" (http://www.wkyc.com/news/regional/akron_article.aspx?storyid=117578&catid=6)

Does a reported utterance of a couple of teenagers brand this vicious attack as having been racially motivated?

Prudent individuals await the results of an investigation. Others find no need for facts.

Does a reported utterance of a couple of teenagers brand this vicious attack as having been racially motivated?

Which brings us to the REPORTED
statements brought fourth by some of the children dropped off at the pool.
ie.
Tawana Brawley?
Crystal Gayle Magnum?

Quite right, the evidence presented, and a jury of the accused peers, will tell the story, well after the riots, "retaliatory" assaults, and unpublicized trial resulting in ZERO consequence for defending fabricated diversionary accusations.

I think we'd better wait to hear from the FBI on this. The fact that they haven't commented yet leads me to believe they don't think they have whole story yet.

D'oh!

Jul 17, 2009

IMHO, the point of this article was NOT whether or not a hate crime had been committed in the two examples cited, but rather why the press, and, by extension, the public is unconcerned about white victims of black racism.

Shucky you don't have to leave your country. Blacks comprise on 13-14% of our population. What you need to do is get a gun, then get some bullets, then oil thst gun and learn how to use it. Then use it if you're the victim of a Hate Crime. Now that was simply wasn't it.

Jul 17, 2009

blacks are the most racist people in america! i'm a person of color, non black, and the most racism i encounter all over the country comes from blacks, i expect it from whites but apparently they hide it better than black people do.

Jul 17, 2009

jillbilly, i congrdulate you sir, for being proud of your white heritage. I am proud of my latin american heritage aswell. I don't see the problem with that, it is about time some of you white boys say it loud without hatred for others. You never once uttered a word of hate you simply stated the love you feel for your people! U think that's a beautiful thing.

lucas

Jul 17, 2009

I'm latin american and i travel all over the USA. I find that black people are the most openly racist group here in America. I have come to expect it from white people but don't get as much of it as i do from black people. You would figure that a group of people that has a history of being discriminated against as much as black people have been in this country would treat others kindly and humanely, but quite the opposite is true. For jillbilly, good 4 u, nothing wrong with being proud of your people, white people have contributed much to this world and have much to b proud of! not once did you preach hate just luv for your kind, that is a good thing. from a proud brown man good 4 you!

This is an issue of reverse racism. When whites are now portrayed as the 'victim' and blacks as the 'oppressors". But not let us forget the legacy of racism that existed when whites were the oppressors and the blacks were the victims... think segregation, racial lynching, cross burning, racist slurs against blacks by white terrorists, slavery and the Jim Crow effects. This phenomenon will not change my negative views on most whites regarding to cowardice expressed by their distorted views.

Kevin McDonald

Jul 18, 2009

Afton, have you ever thought maybe the Jim Crow laws were in effect to prevent this type of thing? Euro ancestors here in this country knew it never works without the demise of the host culture. Can you imagine Detroit/D.C./Haiti if blacks were kept separate from everyone else?

Jul 19, 2009

Well gee, if you guys and gals are so angry over hate crime incidents, now you know how black people feel and have felt for decades - or centuries. You're entitled to your anger over these, just as blacks are entitled to their anger over the racism and hatred they encounter. However blacks are usually told to "get over it." Hmmm...ever heard of practice what you preach?

And Lucas, you can stop reposting your self-centered, misdirected vitriol, especially considering Latinos are responsible for most of the hate crimes in this state.

Jul 19, 2009

no, this isn't a black world but a thug world. everybody can only get what they want if they push someone else out of the way. we all live in this world having been born into it. unfortunately, we don't like one another regardless of community or geographics. you can't believe in lawmakers either because over fifty years ago, asians couldn't even buy property and blacks unable to practice law. what's the answer? we go after each other and create fences big enough to keep one another out of each other's faces.

I'm a native San Franciscan of Asian descent, and I have to agree with most of the posters. African Americans are openly the most racist and outwardly violent group. I've been bullied all my life by Blacks. I'm physcially smaller than most African-Americans by a good 6 inches and at least by a hundred pounds, I'm no match for these cowardly people. But I am an easy victim.

Cassandra

Jul 20, 2009

Mr Kane's article contrived to create an equivalency between the racially-motivated decisions of the administrators of a public facility and a racial remark by a couple of teenage boys in the midst of a spontaneous attack.

Personal prejudices were then applied by those who are disposed to substitute them from a paucity of facts.

That's revelatory, but not concerning the disparate events coupled by Kane.

Patience.

Has anyone ever thought that it is not really about race, but just about money, education and the ability to gain the same privileges equally. Regardless of how well they hide it minorities still have less opportunities to gain the proper education, earn the money to have a privileged lifes as white.
You can’t say now I have stopped hating when articles like this proves that the whites just don’t see it.

Jul 20, 2009

It is amusing to see blacks now trying to DEFEND hate crimes....but that is why I carry. violence is the only things backs understand, as civilized behavior is simply beyond their genetic grip.

Cassandra

Jul 20, 2009

It is interesting that the victims of this attack have now stated that they have no idea whether it was racially motivated, yet the bigots seem to know it was.

I hope "Walter" is able to get a genetic grip on reality.

I always find it interesting that people love to label whites and America as racist based on the past. They point to slavery, Jim Crow laws, etc., but ALWAYS fail to neglect the fact that less than 1% of whites had slaves, that blacks had black slaves, that there were some white slaves, that the majority of whites were against slavery and were willing to fight for the freedom of slaves and that without the help and support of whites that blacks and other minorities would not be where they are today in society. Whites have always been on the side of freedom for all!! All societies have their "bad apples" who make them look bad. One day, people will realize that whites are not the enemy. We helped create one of the greatest nations on earth, not because of our race, but because of our convictions!

Cassandra

Jul 21, 2009

"Whites have always been on the side of freedom for all!"??? Such wacky, self-serving revisionist "history" is laughable.

A nation largely built upon slave labour had legalized the slavery upon which it depended for its economic growth.

Meanwhile, back to the topic:

"As for the race issue, Marshall and the Alchier brothers can't say whether their gathering was targeted because they are white."

http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/51253207.html

So much for those with an agenda that does not comport with the eyewitness testimony of the victims themselves.

oh yeah its like when they beat up a white woman in Baltimore on a city bus, the mostly black bus school kids said the white woman called them racial names, OK think about this logiocaly why would a 50 to one ratio of black kids on 1 white woman, why would a white person say anything racist

a Jew against all forms of racism

Jul 30, 2009

A not so old Jewish proverb says silance equals acceptance". G-d forbid we have again become a nation that does not value people based on skin color. The media is ignorant by not calling these hatful criminals racists, because they clearly are, if the roles were reversed the media would call them racists and rightly so.. Comments like Shakreta remind me of the Nazi that killed my relatives, They said that we were guilty because our relatives killed Jesus. and race based guilt was passed on to Jews. Race based blood guilt is A Nazi concept.Maybe he would like to get rid of me because I am white and our Jewish people have prospered in America, Get over it Shakerta atleast your grand father was not killed in a death camp.and fight all forms of racism

Now to stray away from the subject. There is without a doubt a systematic war on whites in this country. I really believe 20 percent of white Americans are now aware of whats happening around them. I thank Shakreta, PaulJ, afton for there comments because I could not of expressed it any better. I really believe its now only a matter of time before the other 80 percent awake.

I live in mostly black neighborhood in South Florida. While most people of color here are not openly racist, I have, on occasion, for no reason at all, been called "cracker".Once while grocery shopping, once in an auto parts store. I wasnt doing anything to provoke it. I guess my point is, racism is NOT just white people against black people. It works both ways. I dont foster any ill will, I realize the people who did it are just ignorant.

Thirty Asian students were beaten up by African-Americans in South Philadelphia High School. The Asian students say that they have been victimized by both Black students AND staff for years.
