Vintage gambling machines on display at SFO

Passengers traveling through the San Francisco International Airport may find themselves stuck in time at a new exhibition of vintage gambling machines.
“For Amusement Only: Slot Machines and Other Gambling Devices of the Mechanical Age” is in Terminal 3, beyond the security checkpoint, and will be on display through May. There is no charge to view the exhibit, which includes more than 90 slot machines, guessing banks, coin drops, poker machines and punchboards from the late 19th through mid-20th centuries.
Some of the earliest devices are powered by simple clock mechanisms with a payout by the bartender, SFO spokesman Mike McCarron said.
All the machines are on loan from Joe Welch’s San Bruno American Antique Museum.
