Sick leave law like S.F.’s sunk

San Francisco had the first of its kind sick-leave law, and Washington, D.C., has one, too.

But a judge in Milwaukee County struck down an ordinance that would have required private employers to pay for sick time for all employees in the city of Milwaukee, The Associated Press reported.

The judge ruled the ordinance "invalidly enacted and unconstitutional."

According to AP, Milwaukee's voters approved the ordinance in November. The local commerce association, however, won a temporary injunction against the law, which was made permanent Friday by the ruling.

The Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce President Tim Sheehy, in a statement reported by AP, called the ruling, "(a) victory for the city of Milwaukee's economic competitiveness and the workers who depend on a growing economy for their jobs."
