A program that helps underperforming schools start volunteer programs to get kids and parents more involved on campus could become the latest casualty of education budget cuts.
The City's school board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a $99,000 contract for the San Francisco School Volunteers -- a group that has successfully worked with the school district for 38 years according to board members.
But veteran school board member Jill Wynns said the district has to start looking at every dollar more carefully with next year's looming budget cuts that will be more ruthless than they were for this school year.
The group starts volunteer programs in schools that don't usually have the same Parent-Teacher Association involvement as other schools, according to Wynns, who said she is still wavering about which way to vote.
