Mayor pushes for sustainable tourism

06/14/09 1:30 PM PDT

San Francisco is going to be the lead U.S. city to participate in a sustainable tourism program that draws on more than 30 partners from around the world.

The so-called Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria Partnership is meant to foster and promote local businesses that protect cultural heritage and the environment, according to the mayor’s office.

At the 77th U.S. Conference of Mayors this weekend Mayor Gavin Newsom was also slated to introduce a resolution, along with Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and Miami Mayor Manuel Diaz, endorsing 37 criteria that  would set minimum standards for sustainable tourism. The City will work on implementing these criteria with the San Francisco Convention and Visitor's Bureau -- they focus on developing tourism that promotes effective sustainability planning, maximizes social and economic benefits for the local community, enhances cultural heritage and reducing negative impacts to the environment, according to the text of the resolution.

More than 25 restaurants, bars, and hotels have already passed muster as “San Francisco Green Businesses” by meeting the environmental standards for waste reduction, pollution prevention and energy and water conservation, according to the mayor’s office.

The image the world has of SF, established in large part by Newsom and his perverted supporters, is not pretty, and is not going to go away anytime soon.

If you are local to the Bay Area, you should be doing everything you can to help foster good will and the image of such. Last I checked, all coffers were nearly empty with signs of a refill a vanishing dream. The more people from around the world we can get to California, the more it will help us in the long run...

Not-A-Tourist, Please, ask yourself, why are the coffers empty? Why is the dream turned to nightmare? Why? It's about an image of perversion, it's about excessive taxation, it's about false gods, and disgusting directions.
