SF officer under investigation again

By: Brent Begin

10/28/09 4:26 PM PDT

It looks like Hanley Chan, a longtime San Francisco Patrol Special officer and candidate for the Broadmoor Police Commission, is in trouble again.

The San Francisco Police Department, which oversees the Gold Rush-era security detail known as the Patrol Special, has leveled charges against Chan that he failed to keep valid worker’s compensation insurance while supervising an assistant patrol special officer, according to Police Commission documents.

That assistant experienced a stroke while on duty – and all indications are that he won’t be covered for disability.

Chan has already come under fire for a couple incidents, including a macho moment at a Los Angeles firing range and campaign material that falsely implied he was already an employee of the Broadmoor Police Commission.

The San Francisco Police Commission will assign a commissioner to his latest disciplinary case Wednesday night.

The city should amend the charter and distance the city from these people, they are a major liability and have no concern for public safety its all about pretending they are police officers and squeezing money out of the unsuspecting public.

They are not police yet try to act like they are, they have unlawfully used red lights and sirens in their cars to pull over people that don't know any better. Very dangerous!

Broadmoor Resident

This defintely not a political smear campaign. It is about a borderline individual running for an office that deserves a well-balanced candidate with experience and historical knowledge of Broadmoor. We voters of Broadmoor deserve the best! We don't need someone who impersonates an officer, demeans SFPD & continues to wear official SFPD patches & uniform holding campaign signs on Broadmoor streets . We don't need a foolish wanna-be cop! It serves injustice to our much needed police . Thank you SFPD for saving Broadmoor from becoming victims!

SF Gate Tiny community may finally get police powers

Broadmoor PD is community policing. It isn’t real policing. This is your Police.

Hanley has not received complaints from those who he protects is SF. Yes the SF Special Patrol is a glorified security company, but they do serve a purpose, to protect and respond quickly to those that pay them for protection.

Sound a lot like Broadmoor.

Why not have someone who is representative of the new demographic that lives in Broadmoor? Yes he may have just moved to the city, but look around, most people moved only 5 years ago.

He may not be the right fit yet, but do you really want to have the police run without checks and balance? Do you really want to have it run by the Good Ol Boys?
