The budget battles in San Francisco are getting a bit old for Mayor Gavin Newsom. He said Wednesday that he hankers for the mess in Sacramento instead, where Republicans would offer a fresher challenge than The City's progressive bloc.
“I feel like a broken record,” Newsom told reporters, saying that he has been dealing with the city and county budget since 1996 when he was appointed to San Francisco's Parking and Traffic Commission.
Every year, Newsom said, the same programs are cut and then added back by the Board of Supervisors during the budget process. And during the process, the same people come back to fight for their programs.
So, won’t the process be even more grueling in Sacramento if Newsom becomes governor? It may be grueling, but it will be different, he said, throwing out a joke he sometimes tells.
"I can't wait to deal with some Republicans.”
