Are there any potential Dalys, Mirkarimis or Alioto-Piers among San Francisco high school students? Well, Galileo High School may find out when they mock the Board of Supervisors in a hearing on Monday.

There will be no rent control amendments, cat declawing bans or disabled access legislation being discussed. These 20 or so students are going straight to the hard stuff: balancing the budget.

Supervisor Carmen Chu will counsel students on the budgetary process as they break up into four groups (Board of Supervisors, Department of Public Works, the Port, and AT&T) and see how budget cuts made by the Board of Supervisors affect city departments and businesses.

The mock hearing is sponsored by AT&T and Junior Achievement of Northern California. The hearing starts at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the AT&T Executive Briefing Center, 795 Folsom Street.
