Elementary school closing in on solar panels

By: Mike Billings

08/24/09 3:20 PM PDT

The installation of solar panels at Rosa Parks Elementary School in the Western Addition will be a step closer to reality if the San Francisco Unified School District board approves a contract with PG&E.

The school won a contest that earned it a “green makeover.”

The contract approval will allow PG&E and its vender Akenna Solar Inc. to install a 1.2KW solar panel installation at the school for educational and demonstration purposes, according to school district documents.

Installation of the panels will be paid for by an Eco Media Grant, meaning the district does not have to pay for the panels.
