The City is poised to pay $1.75 million to the family of a pedestrian killed by a public works truck last year.

On April 11, 2008, Florencia Tiongco was using a crosswalk at Bayshore Boulevard and Bacon Street when she was struck and killed by a Ford-F250 pickup driven by a public works employee, according to the lawsuit.

Tiongco’s husband, Segundo Malvar Tiongo and her seven children filed the lawsuit Jan. 16. In it, they claim the city failed to inspect, repair and maintain the truck properly.

The proposed settlement will go before the Board of Supervisors’ Rules Committee for approval on Thursday.

Since a lost life can't be restored a family is due compensation to make it financially whole not financially set. $1.75 million is an exorbitant amount of money. Unless of course if she was a surgeon.
