City budget battle ballot measure

By: Joshua Sabatini

Supervisor Chris Daly seemed none to happy with how some of the budget process went — and he warned about what could happen after the supervisors approve the spending.

But if Daly’s proposed a charter amendment winds up on the November ballot and is approved by voters, it would allow the Board of Supervisors to force the mayor to spend money the way the board appropriated it. If Daly’s item is approved, the mayor would be able to strip away spending — but only through a successful veto. The supervisors can override a mayoral veto with eight votes.

The Rules Committee is scheduled to vote Monday on the charter amendment. It would need approval by the full board to make it onto the ballot.
