Crabtree's X's and O's don't include math

Michael Crabtree, the San Francisco 49ers top draft pick, is hardly the first player to hold out in a contract disupte, but he may be the dumbest.

Crabtree, who so far has refused to sign a $20 million contract because he believes he should be paid more than players picked ahead of him - a delusional move that defies the NFL's long-honored slotting system - is actually losing money. The team has decided that it will decrease their offer on a pro-rated basis for each game he misses, according to reports, meaning that he just lost 1/16th of this year's salary.

Now I realize 1/16th of nothing is not a lot, but Crabtree apparently is even more math challenged than most. His representatives apparently believe that by sitting out the season and re-entering the draft, the wide receiver will get more money next year from another team. That's after sitting out a year and cementing his reputation as a churlish, prima donna.

You think bucking the NFL's own payment system is going to make you a richer man? Don't drop the Hail Mary pass Michael.

Some people think he'll sign before the season ends, but even if he does, his season is already over. Can he avoid the sophomore jinx? Maybe he just really enjoys being part of draft day.

I think he's still not over the fact that Singletary made him cry in training camp.

Just trade him. It's obvious football isn't too passionate of an interest of his and listens to Deion Sanders.

i truly believe that cashtree will sign this week, but there's no doubt he's lost a lot of respect from everyone in the league.. that means he now has to score 10 TD's next season

Epic fail. Silly Crabtree, football is for "warriors", not for "hustlers".

If Crabtree does sign, I hope he doesn't think that whining will increase his chances of scoring touchdowns. He probably didn't take economics in college - spent too much time in basket weaving type courses.

At first, we thought Mr. Crabtree was a gift from football God Al Davis to the Niners...then it turns out Crabtree is a gift to NFL owners, to show what happens to stubborn holdouts. Looking forward to the rapid decline of Crabtree's career and his chance to start a new career as reality star in show about fastest sports has-been in NFL history.

We need to go forward without this distraction, we have a pretty good line of receivers already and don't need somebody that will never play at a level that is 100% teamwork

Hey rookie, $20 million is pretty darn good for someone that may or may not be any good.

They ought to start tampering investigations, especially after what Dion said about the two other teams willing to pay up. Crabtree has no reason to believe that is value will improve in next year's draft. The only way his holdout could be considered rational is if he's already received clandestine offers. But then again, is it actually likely that either of these teams would be able to sign crabtree next season, guaranteed?

The only time I EVER want to see Michael Schiessenbaum is on another team when the 49ers D-backs get a chance to show him how they feel about him totally dissing our team.

I stopped feeling sorry some time ago for this fool who is throwing his pro career away before it starts.
