A new inconvenient truth: The Earth is actually cooling

By: Examiner staff editorial
December 23, 2008

The “scientific consensus” that Al Gore and his fellow global warming alarmists rely upon to force radical changes in how Americans live and work is being unraveled by Mother Nature. In addition to the recent freak snowstorms in Malibu, New Orleans and Las Vegas, Arctic ice is expanding this year — not shrinking — and there were 115 record-low temperatures reported in the U.S. in October, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Despite rising carbon dioxide levels, the Earth has actually been cooling not warming since 1998, when the warming trend peaked in conjunction with heightened sunspot activity. It appears that 2008, the National Climatic Data Center now says, will go down as the coldest year in a decade.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming?” asked Dr. David Gee, chairman of the 2008 International Geological Congress’ science committee. That’s an excellent question for President-elect Barack Obama, who promised mandatory caps on carbon emissions and a new international global warming treaty. After meeting with Gore recently, Obama proclaimed: “The time for delay is over; the time for denial is over. We all believe what the scientists have been telling us for years.”

Which scientists? Does Obama believe more than 650 current and former members of the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who are now publicly questioning the nonscientist Gore’s major premise? Or Norwegian Nobel physicist Ivar Giaever, who declared himself a global warming skeptic, as did Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology? Or the scientists who point out that “100 percent” of the 20th century global warming signal comes from man-made “adjustments” made to a computer model at NASA’s Goddard Institute?

There is no scientific consensus that human activity is causing global warming. The IPCC’s own climate change models predicted rising temperatures for this year, but those actually recorded fall short of the predictions. Yet Gore and his fellow global warming zealots apparently think the rest of us are sufficiently gullible to believe that the current cooling trend “actually illustrates how fast the world is warming,” as a reporter for The Associated Press put it recently. In the absence of credible scientific evidence of global warming as a man-made problem, Obama’s plans to impose draconian climate control measures such as those found in the failed Lieberman-Warner cap-and-trade proposal are not only unnecessary, they’re likely to leave millions of Americans out in the cold.

Worst Case Scenario

If Al Gore is wrong, the price of that error is that we end up having cleaner air, energy independence, which means our money stays in our economy to foster greater domestic growth. If Dr. David Gee is wrong -- humanity is history. What's so alarmist about common sense?

I agree with the first commenter that yes a byproduct (possibly) would be cleaner air, smart growth cities with multi-use zoning and reliable public transit which are all fantastic. But being lied to by "experts" is hardly a step in the right direction. Some suggested reading for those who believe the hype of global warming as pushed by the companies with contracts with the government: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/05/04/do0405.xml http://www.prisonplanet.com/archives/global_warming/index.htm We were all going to die of: 1. Rabies (1970s) 2. Foot and Mouth (1990s) 3. SARs (2000s) 4. Bird Flu (2006) 5. Global Warming

"In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill." - Club of Rome, The First Global Revolution and "...we need to get some broad based support, to capture the public's imagination....So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements and make little mention of any doubts....Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest." - Stephen Schneider, Stanford Professor of Climatology, lead author of many IPCC reports.

If anyone thinks that if we implement these "global warming" fanatics' economic - yes it is economic, plan and it has no costs, they will be sorely suprised when unemployment rises and inflation rises due to the costs of adhering to these misplaced intentions. Look at Europe, which has implemented many of the Kyoto protocols, their unemployment rate is fully 2% higher than ours - that my friends would be 3mln American jobs lost!

How quickly they change their tune. When the evidence goes against them, anti-agw folks complain that we haven't been gathering data long enough. But now we have a single year of cooler weather in the northern hemisphere and lo - The entire body of data taken up to this point is now overturned!

As Zo points out, we've been here many times before. Liberals, environmentalists have a tendency to cry wolf. In 1987 Oprah Winfrey assured her vast gullible audience that by 1990 one-fifth of all heterosexuals would be dead of AIDS.

Back in the 60's the CFR plans for using the environment as a major means to erode the sovereignty of countries for their new world order is the scenario we are witnessing today. This planet is not threaten by CO2, rather the military industrial complex

Finally the truth in print. How can America be so stupid to accept Global Warming without Scientific Proof.

As a student at SJSU 50 years ago we were taught that it was Global Cooling. Also, that there was only 10 years of oil left. It is not easy to get the facts.

when will the average guy stop paying attention to the Al Gore's (chicken littles)of this world and use a little common sense and good science. Wake up people. The human race has nothing to do with the climate.

And, if he's wrong, each and every American citizen will pay the price of FREEDOM!! Global Warming is a hoax! It has been proven a hoax by many in the scientific community but, because it is a tool to be used to further a socialistic agenda, we are told we nust believe this lie. It was conjured up for the express purpose of controlling people through the hidden taxation that will result from GW legislation. Thus, enslaving an entire world with this one "tool". And it seems to be working fabulously!! People at all levels continue to be indocrinated with this false premise and they are falling for it like sheep being led to slaughter. Remember these words I have written!! If/when these commnists are successful, you, nor your grandchildren will know freedom!!

Environmental Irony

Yes...it is great to finally see the truth in print. The other issue is cleaning up the air. Since when is carbon dioxide a pollutant?? Since when does carbon dioxide cause smog?? If this was true, then the Amazon Basin would be a very unhealthy place. We all want cleaner air, water and food, but this carbon dioxide phantasm is a scam. Try this...go out on the street (with a clipboard or some such) and tell people you are an activist seeking to eradicate carbon dioxide from the planet. You will be amazed at how many people will sign it. You do realize that without it we would all...well...die!
