Brian Boitano, Olympic gold medal figure skater and host of the Food Network show “What Would Brian Boitano Make?”, was inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame on Monday.
What do you think about being given this honor? It’s great. My father was born and raised in San Jose, and my parents met here in San Francisco in 1949 … and then they went down to Sunnyvale, where I was raised. So, yeah, I have real deep roots here. I just love the Bay Area, I’ve never thought of living anywhere else.
You were in Vancouver for this year’s Olympics. How was it? It’s better to watch it on TV [laughs]. You can see a lot more, and it’s not so crowded.
You’re now a Food Network star. How did you make that change? It’s not a change because I’m still skating; it’s an add-on. I always got together with my friends after the Olympics, and I would make different recipes and have people over to my house.
Have you thought about opening a restaurant? I don’t know if I’d like to do that or not. I’m not the type that would sit there and go to the restaurant every night, but I am the type that would like to have a restaurant so I could have a table in the back and go and eat there every night and bring all my friends there. That’d be really fun.
