Oakland Raiders waive OL Vadal Alexander

During their first players off day of training camp, the Oakland Raiders officially released offensive lineman Vadal Alexander.

Head coach Jon Gruden said on Monday that the team would “move on” from Alexander at some point in the next few days. He had yet to report to camp, and was on the non-football injury list. Oakland made it official on Tuesday.

Alexander, picked in the seventh round of the 2016 draft out of LSU, was set to be suspended for four games this season, for violating the league’s performance enhancing drug policy.

He played in 24 games and made nine starts for the Raiders over the last two years, but since Oakland spent two early picks this year on linemen — Kolton Miller at No. 15 overall and Brandon Parker at No. 65 overall — Alexander was facing an uphill climb to even make the roster.

Offensive coordinator Greg Olson has roundly praised both Miller and Parker’s performance so far this camp.

“Really excited about both those guys, made tremendous strides when they got here, throughout the OTAs and the June minicamp,” Olson said last week. “Both of them had a good summer. We’ve thrown them into the mix right now. We’re kind of rolling those guys, obviously. Kolton’s played with the starting group on every period that we’ve had, and we’ve rolled Brandon in there, as well, but they’ve both looked really solid.”
