Oakland BART service to airport is down

BART's new connector train from the O.co Coliseum to the Oakland International Airport is out of service because of mechanical problems, BART officials said this morning.

Service remained out as of 10:30 a.m., according to BART officials.

BART officials are unsure if the problem is related to the weather, but said the problem is not propulsion-related.

The agency is asking travelers to use the Alameda Contra Costa Transit 73 bus line while it establishes a bus bridge to the airport. The bus bridge will provide more frequent service than the 73 line.

About 30 people were on the train when the system failed, and everyone were safely evacuated, according to BART officials.
