Oakland Athletics Notebook: Khris Davis makes history, keeps victimizing Texas Rangers

OAKLAND — Khris Davis’s home run on Saturday was more than just the 41st of his season.

In his career, Davis is now hitting .307 against Texas, and he’s hitting .300 this year with 10 home runs and 26 RBIs.

In his career (55 games), Davis has 28 home runs and 64 RBIs against Texas. Davis now has the second-most home runs in a season against the Rangers/Washington Senators franchise. His 10 are one behind Micky Mantle’s 11 in 1961. Davis also hit 10 against them in 2016, and the original Boog Powell hit 10 against them in 1964.

Davis’s home run was his 39th homer as a designated hitter this season, tying Frank Thomas (2006) for the franchise record. Thomas hit .270 with 114 RBIs that season and finished fourth in the MVP race.

Davis’s first-inning home run was also his 126th in the last three seasons, setting an Oakland record (Jimmie Foxx has the franchise record with 150). Those 126 are also the best in baseball over the last three seasons.

In college football news, the A’s top draft pick this June — Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray –had three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns on Saturday against UCLA, going 19-of-33 for 375 yards.

“The only person I’m disappointed in is Billy Beane,” Bruins head coach Chip Kelly reportedly said after the game. “I wish he would have given (Kyler Murray) more money. Maybe he wouldn’t have come back.”

Since joining the A’s, Shawn Kelley, who got the A’s out of jam in the fourth, has now thrown 9 2/3 innings in 11 games, with no runs and only two hits allowed.
