No Doubt reunites for Japan benefit

What will it be like when Gwen Stefani and her platinum ska-punk-pop band No Doubt return? Where will she fit in, in this bold new Ke$ha/Katy Perry/Lady Gaga era? 200 lucky Los Angeles fans found out June 7, when Stefani hosted a private Harajuku-themed tea party at that city’s Royal/T, a benefit for the Children’s Japan Earthquake Emergency Fund.

Sure, Stefani’s rocker hubby Gavin Rossdale was on hand. But then in walked No Doubt mainstays Tom Dumot, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young, for a surprise No Doubt reunion concert at the space, L.A.’s first Japanese-style cosplay (or “costume play”) café.

Stefani also held raffles at the event, featuring vintage memorabilia from her own popular L.A.M.B. collection. She’d already personally donated $1 million to the cause, but the tea party raised $120,000 more.

She called it “an incredible day filled with lots of emotion ,” and added that she could hardly believe “that I had the opportunity to host an event that could actually help people … but through the power of music and fashion we were all brought together to help the kids in Japan.”
