It’s lonely being the Maytag Repairman,but a Virginia man is going to give it a try. Whirlpool Corp. has selected Clay Jackson of Richmond, Va., as the character promoting the reliability of its Maytag brand of large appliances after the Benton Harbor, Mich.-based company conducted a nationwide search for the "new face of Maytag." Whirlpool bought Maytag of Newton, Iowa, last year.
The J.M. Smucker Co., the largest U.S. producer of jams and jellies and maker of Jif peanut butter, is buying some milk to go with its peanut butter and jelly. The company plans to acquire Eagle Family Food Holdings, Inc., which includes the Borden Eagle brand of sweetened condensed and evaporated milk, for about $248 million — about $133 million in cash and $115 million in assumed debt.
