FAVORITE MOVIE THEATER
WHERE: 1727 Haight St., between Cole and Shrader streets
WHAT: Benches, sofas, strange powder for your popcorn
INFO: (415) 668-3994 or www.redvicmoviehouse.com
Once your preconceived idea of a movie experience wears off and you start to get into the laid-back feel of the place, you might find yourself cuddling up to someone next to you. You might also get slapped across the face, and then you can focus on the film — and isn’t that why you went to the movie in the first place?
FAVORITE NATURE SPOT
WHERE: At the end of Golden Gate Park
WHAT: Listen to the ocean, meditate, nap, make sand angels
I enjoy listening to the ocean while I meditate or nap and make sand angels. I love coasting down the slight incline from my brother’s house on 21st Avenue. I hate riding up said incline going back.
Fields Book Store
WHERE: 1419 Polk St., between California and Pine streets
WHAT: Lots of info on helping people
INFO: (415) 673-2027 or www.fieldsbooks.com
I get a lot of info on helping people here. I do wish they had a copy machine — a lot of the books have too many words! I spend a lot of time in there just taking notes.
FAVORITE PLACE FOR A SUGAR FIX
WHERE: 450 10th St., between Bryant and Harrison streets
WHAT: Lots of free sample tables, lots of free sugar
INFO: (415) 626-4388 or www.costco.com
The free sample tables: ice cream, chocolate, cookies, cake, gum … all free. But bring a hat and maybe some glasses — this helps with your second helping.
WHERE: 3245 16th St., between Guerrero and Dolores streets
WHAT: The best place to see unaffected, true art
INFO: (415) 863-2108 or www.creativityexplored.org
Honestly, I would say the best place to see unaffected, true art from the creative force of the universe is Creativity Explored. Totally inspiring. The real deal. [Editor’s note: Creativity Explored is a nonprofit visual arts center where artists with developmental disabilities create, exhibit and sell art.]
FAVORITE TOURISTY THING TO DO
WHERE: Back and forth from San Francisco to Oakland
WHAT: It goes underwater
INFO: (415) 989-2278 or www.bart.gov
It goes underwater! I know, crazy, right? With my notebook, of course.
FAVORITE CHEAP EATS RESTAURANT
WHERE: 8 Sixth St., at Market Street
WHAT: Delicious, cheap, Vietnamese restaurant
INFO: (415) 626-0927 or tulansf.blogspot.com
Don’t let the posh exterior fool you. This place is DELICIOUS and CHEAP. I like the Lemon Beef Salad and Imperial Rolls. And you have to have one of their Vietnamese coffees — or two or three, depending what you’re doing for the next eight to 12 hours.
FAVORITE PLACE TO PEOPLE WATCH
WHERE: 700 Fourth St., at Townsend Street
WHEN: 5 p.m.
WHAT: A study in the fight-or-flight condition
INFO: (800) 660-4287 or www.caltrain.com
I am the guy with the eyeholes cut out of the newspaper, writing notes, which is hard to do, I must say. It’s a study in the fight-or-flight condition.
FAVORITE PLACE TO BUY BEDDING
Ross Dress for Less
WHERE: 2300 16th St., between Bryant and Hampshire streets
WHAT: Great deals on pillow and sheet sets
INFO: (415) 554-1901 or www.rossstores.com
This is where I found a great deal on a pillow and sheet set from Thomas Lee — 500 thread count! Made of 100 percent American-grown pima cotton! For those of you not in the bedding game, those are some sweet sheets.
