Scoop wonders if the actor, who accepted his award for playing a transgender character on “Transparent” by saying “I would not be unhappy if I were the last cisgender male to play a female transgender on television,” knew about Wednesday’s episode of “Modern Family.”
The sitcom is beginning its eighth season with a first: a story featuring an openly transgender child actor, 8-year-old Jackson Millarker, playing a trans character, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Titled “A Stereotypical Day,” the episode recounts the way the seemingly nonjudgmental gay couple Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) react when their daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) has a transgender pal over for a playdate.
The news comes as Laverne Cox will make history later this year playing the first full-time transgender character on broadcast television in CBS’ “Doubt.” Nashville also will introduce a recurring transgender actress, Jen Richards of “I Am Cait” fame, when it begins its fifth season in January.
Meanwhile, transgender teen and activist Jazz Jennings is holding her own on TLC’s reality show “I Am Jazz.”
