Mission District’s Community Music Center celebrates 95th birthday on Sunday

This weekend the San Francisco Community Music Center will be celebrating its 95th birthday with a “field day” of events that are free and open to the community.

The Center was founded in 1921 by Gertrude Field “be a provider of music that is not art for art’s sake, but art for life’s sake.” The birthday celebration this Sunday, Nov. 20 will be held in honor of Field, and will feature more than 70 performance from current students and alumni. Donations will be accepted to support the Center’s scholarship program.

The events will run from noon to 5 p.m. at 544 Capp St. Stop by to hear the local choir, orchestra, and children’s chorus, or to take a music lesson and learn more about the Center’s programs.
