Students at James Lick Middle School will learn about bicycling safety skills, such as how to ride in street traffic, at a two-week class starting Friday.

Students at Marina Middle School improved their biking traffic and safety knowledge by 40 percent after they took the class, according to the San Francisco Unified School District. The program, which is free to schools, is provided through a partnership with the Presidio Community YMCA Bicycle Program. It receives funding through California Kids’ Plates, an organization that raises money for child safety programs throughout California.
