Medina now branded as a 'truther' and a 'birther'

Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina is in hot water with the media after she failed to condemn 9/11 'truthers' conspiracy theories but now it looks like she may sympathize with  'birther' conspiracy theories surrounding Barack Obama's birth certificate.

From the Statesman:

“The 9/11 Commission report, you know, great sections of that are redacted and they’re top secret,” Medina said. “That makes us all wonder,’ well what’s happening back there?’ The same is true with the birth certificate thing. I think it’s healthy that people are asking questions.”

'Truther' and 'birther' conspiracies have actually led members of both parties to 'question' these events.

Twenty-eight percent of Republicans believed President Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States, and 30 percent were “not sure,” according to a recent Daily Kos poll.

But Beltway's David Freddoso pointed out that in 2007,  a poll showed that 35 percent of Democrats said that President Bush knew in advance about the 9/11 attacks, and 26 percent were not sure.

While it may be 'healthy' to ask questions about these theories, it certainly isn't healthy for candidates running for political office. It will be interesting to see how Medina polls in the upcoming weeks.
