San Francisco, meet Montana Tessa Siebel Newsom.

The baby girl was born to Jennifer Siebel Newsom, 35, and Mayor Gavin Newsom, 41, at 12:39 p.m. on Friday in San Francisco.

The 7-pound, 12-ounce baby was born at an unnamed hospital in San Francisco, according to the Mayor’s Office.

The arrival of their first child has been highly anticipated event — by the public, media and family members.

Since the couple married last year, friends and relatives had been pushing the two to have children. The mayor’s father, retired judge Bill Newsom, told The Examiner in February that he was “one of those that was prodding and saying, ‘Move it along before I’m stricken by senility.’”

Even so, the actress, who was raised in Ross in Marin County, and the mayor managed to keep everyone — even family members — in the dark about the pregnancy until a media report revealed the news in February.

The child is the first for both Gavin and Jennifer, who met during a blind date at the Artists Ball at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in October 2006.

It was from there that the couple’s relationship progressed, until they became engaged the weekend before New Year’s Day 2008 in Hawaii.

They wed in July last year at Siebel Newsom’s family ranch in Montana — the first marriage for Jennifer and the second for Gavin.

Media was barred from the attending the wedding, themed Out of Africa. However, high-profile guests included House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin and former Mayor Willie Brown.

The marriage also seemed to mark a turning point for Gavin Newsom, who had divorced from his first wife, admitted to an affair with a former aide’s wife and sought treatment for an alcohol problem.

Now, the mayor and Siebel Newsom have moved to a new family-sized home in Ashbury Heights, and are moving into their parenting stage.

The first child of San Francisco also has parents who have a rich background in business and education.

Before his election in 2003 as the youngest San Francisco mayor in a century, Newsom turned his PlumpJack Wine Shop, founded in 1992, into a multimillion dollar business.

Siebel Newsom graduated from Stanford University, where she also earned a graduate degree in business, and has acted in a number of studio and independent films and TV shows. She also directs and produces documentaries and is an advocate for women’s issues.
