SF police find homicide scene while searching building man jumped from

The death of a 58-year-old man who was found suffering from cuts all over his body inside an apartment building in the Tenderloin Monday evening is being investigated as a homicide, according to police.

Police discovered the homicide victim after responding to a report of a man jumping out the window of an apartment building on Post Street between Hyde and Larkin streets at around 5:45 p.m.

Officer Grace Gatpandan, a police spokesperson, said police found a 42-year-old man suffering from injuries considered life-threatening outside the building. Officers then searched the building and found a 58-year-old man inside with numerous lacerations on his head and neck.

Both men were taken to the hospital, where the man found inside the building died. His death has since been ruled a homicide.

Police have detained the other injured man in connection with the incident but have not determined whether he is a suspect in the case. The man is in the intensive care unit and has not been interviewed by police, Gatpandan said.

Police are still investigating the homicide to determine what happened inside the apartment building that led to the killing.

It’s not immediately clear whether the Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim.

The killing marks the second homicide of the year in San Francisco.
