A 23-year-old man was beaten unconscious by a man with a metal bar after an argument Wednesday, said police.

The victim was walking near the intersection of Concord and Morse streets in the Outer Mission at 4:41 p.m. when he got into an argument with the suspect, a man in his 20s.

Soon after the argument began, the suspect attacked the victim with a metal bar, hitting him several times in the head and torso.

The attacker then fled on foot as the victim lay on the ground unconscious.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He had lacerations and contusions to his head. His condition Thursday remained serious.

In the meantime, no arrest has been made in the case.
