Lowell baseball continues streak of dominance, sweeps Transbay Series

MALONEY FIELD — Lowell High School reclaimed the Transbay Series title after a 3-0 win against Oakland Technical High School.

Alex Bradshaw pitched a shutout on Thursday, while Joe Solomon and Levi Humphrey provided key hits as Lowell secured the 3-0 win to sweep the best-of-three series.

“When you throw strikes, get your first pitch over, and have defense making the plays, you can’t ask for anything else,” said Lowell head coach Daryl Semien.

The Cardinals broke away in the third with key hits with the bases loaded. Humphrey hit a single to right field to knock in Montana Phoupraseut. Solomon — a standout pitcher as well — hit a double, plating Alex Bradshaw and Owen Mahoney.

After its big third inning, Lowell played sharp defense to protect its lead. Oakland Tech managed just two hits.

Bryan Bassette, Oakland Tech head coach, said his team just didn’t take advantage of Lowell’s mistakes in the field.

“It just wasn’t our day,” said Bassette. “But defensively we played well and didn’t allow the floodgates to open up, we were still in that ball game by the last out, just not enough offense.”

Semien credited the pitching abilities of Bradshaw and Solomon that kept them on top of the league during the season, and allowed for the team’s success in the Transbay Series.

The last five years of the series has been a battle between Lowell and Oakland Tech. The East Bay won last season, while San Francisco won the series from 2013 to 2015.

The teams will both start again with their regular season in the fall, when Semien will keep his approach simple: “Just keep playing Lowell baseball.”
