The man killed early Tuesday evening in Diamond Heights has been identified as 28-year-old San Francisco resident Steven Escalon.

Escalon, who also went by Eriq, was found by police about 6:20 p.m. in the 5000 block of Diamond Heights Boulevard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are investigating Escalon’s death as a homicide, but no new information on how he died was available.
Escalon’s Facebook page said he was a hairdresser at Metamorphosis Salon on Market Street. Employees at the salon had no comment Thursday.

Escalon was raised in Clovis, according to a bio he set up for himself on xanga.com. He was a member of the Concord Blue Devils Colorguard.

His Blue Devil friends started a Facebook page “In Memory of Eriq Escalon” to celebrate his life. They also initiated fundraisers both in the Bay Area, Central Valley and Southern California so future generations of Blue Devils Colorguard members can experience Eriq’s love for the Colorguard. To raise funds, they’ve ordered 1,000 memorial bracelets and are accepting donations of $5.

Escalon was memorialized by other friends online as well.

A commenter on the Drum Corps Planet  website posted, “I think I remember Eriq from 2004 when I played with the alums and A & B corps brass at Jerry Seawright’s memorial. He looked at my K-20 sop and could not believe we only used 2 valves back in the day. I also remember a bright smile.”

A Facebook page called Club Legends posted Escalon’s picture Wednesday night with a message: “For those of you who did not know, Eriq Escalon Passed away last nite, He was a very Special Person and Everyone who new him will miss his Smile and laughter. God Bless You and may God always be by your side.”

On Twitter, @devyn_ellis tweeted, “Eriq Escalon, you’re gonna be the most fabulous gayngel up in heaven. Listen to tons of Madonna for me. #RipEriq#foreverinourhearts.” And @Ilovcelticwoman tweeted, “Even though you were my coach for only a few months, you were fabulous. RIP Eriq Escalon.”
