A woman had to go to the hospital Tuesday night because a man bit her hand after she tried to break up an argument among a group she did not know — then her wallet was stolen too.
The 30-something woman was walking along The Embarcadero near Market Street around 11 p.m. when she saw a man who appeared to be in his 20s arguing with two women, and she tried to tell him to leave the women alone, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
“All of a sudden the suspect turned on the victim, biting the victim on the hand and in the process her wallet fell out,” Esparza said. “The suspect took the wallet, and after that she ran away screaming in pain and the other three fled together.”
The woman was taken to a local hospital, and the extent of her injury had not been determined.
Esparza said the only description of the man was that he was white, about 5 feet 9 inches, about 180 pounds and wearing a red jacket or sweatshirt.
Esparza did not have any information about the women or what the argument was about.
“She was just trying to do the right thing,” he said.
