Update: As of 5:20pm Muni was running again as scheduled.
Muni Metro service between West Portal and Van Ness stations is unlikely to return in time for the start of the evening commute, as crews continue to work on restoring power in the underground tunnel.
Just before 11 a.m., the agency detected a problem with the system’s overhead wire network near the Castro Station, forcing Muni to close out a portion of its underground tunnel in both directions. As a result, passengers on the M-Ocean View, K-Ingleside, and the L-Taraval lines have been forced to travel on bus shuttles. About 90,000 passengers travel on those lines every day.
While crews have fixed the overhead wire problem, power still has not been restored to portions of the Muni tunnel as of 4:32 p.m. The agency had hoped to have the problem resolved by the evening commute, but currently only the N-Judah and the J-Church are running as regularly scheduled.
