Every one of the 10 managers laid off earlier this month by the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency earned at least $100,000 a year.

Ed Reiskin, director of the SFMTA, which operates Muni and is facing a two-year shortfall of $53.2 million, made the decision to let go of the employees in a move to save $2 million annually.

The lowest-paid of the managers earned $103,950 a year, according to SFMTA documents. That employee was the only manager who did not earn at least $125,000 a year. The highest-paid manager, a deputy director, made $178,126 a year. Four made $167,000 or more a year. Those annual totals are just the salaries of the workers and don’t include benefits packages.

The SFMTA has not released names of the laid-off employees, but sources confirmed that Reginald Mason, the agency’s director of safety and training, was one of the workers let go.

In an internal memo sent out earlier this month, Reiskin praised the departing employees, but said he had to eliminate the positions in order to maintain frontline services.

Along with the layoffs, Reiskin also eliminated two vacant manager positions. Those positions would have paid $135,200 and $156,494 a year, respectively.
