BART will study a proposed extension to Livermore.

BART will move forward with plans to study expanded service to Livermore, albeit in a reduced fashion.

On Thursday, the agency’s board approved a measure to begin environmental reviews and ridership studies of a proposal to extend BART to the East Bay city.

Originally, BART proposed a $3.8 billion project to expand service 10 miles, resulting in an extra 31,000 passengers on the system. However, funding problems have forced the agency to scale down to a five-mile extension expected to cost $800 million to $1.2 billion and bring in 21,000 new riders.
