More than $5 million once intended to go toward operations on the Dumbarton Rail project could be officially shifted to expanded Transbay bus service.
The Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the region’s lead transit financing agency, had set aside $5.5 million in bridge toll funds for the oft-delayed rail project to introduce Caltrain service to the now-defunct Dumbarton Rail Bridge.
But with that project faced with funding problems, the MTC is considering shifting the money toward increasing AC Transit bus service on the Dumbarton auto bridge, which lies just north of the rail span.
An MTC committee has already recommended moving forward with the funding transfer. On Wednesday, the full MTC board will vote on whether to authorize the proposal.
