An apparent suicide snarled Sunday’s BART service for hours after a man laid on the tracks, shutting down a San Francisco station for about two hours.
A man was killed around 3:30 p.m. at the 24th Street BART station. Though the cause of death was not determined, witnesses reported seeing the man lay down on the tracks before the train reached the station, BART spokeswoman Luna Salavar said.
“We don’t know what was going on in the person's head, so we do not make the determination, but witnesses did say the person got on the tracks voluntarily,” Salavar said.
The incident closed the station until after 5 p.m. Major delays were reported systemwide for any train entering or exiting San Francisco because trains needed to single-track around the incident.
