More BART customers are beginning to wonder if traveling on the railway is really a good bang for the buck.

According to the agency’s latest customer survey, about 64 percent of BART passengers say using the system is a good value for their money, a respectable figure, but one that represents a seven percent drop from their previous findings.

Only 24 percent of the passengers surveyed in the study strongly agreed that traveling on BART was a good use of money, down from 32 percent in 2008. Fifteen percent of the BART customers disagreed that traveling on the system was cost efficient, a four percent increase from 2008. The percent of people who agreed somewhat was 40 percent, the same as 2008.

Since the last survey was conducted, BART raised fares by 6 percent, including an increase from $1.50 to $4.00 to the surcharge for travel down to the San Francisco International Airport.

The latest customer survey study will be presented at BART’s Board of Directors meeting on Thursday.
