Surfers pull distressed teen to shore at Ocean Beach

Firefighters were called to assist a teenager in distress off the San Francisco coast this afternoon, but the call was canceled when surfers
brought the youngster safely to shore.

San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said a rescue crew was dispatched to the beach near Sloat Boulevard and Great Highway at 3:37 p.m.
to assist a 14-year-old in distress.

The call was canceled about 10 minutes later because some surfers had brought the teenager to land. Firefighters were at the beach assessing the teen's condition shortly before 4 p.m.

Talmadge said the teen was not wearing a wetsuit and appeared to have been swimming in the ocean.
