People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals will distribute vegetarian Tofurky roasts in downtown San Francisco today to promote a meatless Thanksgiving.

Two PETA members dressed as turkeys will hand out the free tofu food and copies of the "Vegetarian Starter Kit" at noon at Fourth and Market streets.

Turtle Island Foods is donating the Tofurky roasts.

"Animals on factory farms never get a holiday. The 40 million turkey carcasses that U.S. shoppers buy each Thanksgiving represent only misery," said PETA senior campaigner Ashley Byrne.
