Mayor Gavin Newsom has officially proclaimed Saturday as Burl A. Toler Sr. Day in San Francisco. Toler was the first black official in the NFL and a star player on the University of San Francisco’s famously undefeated 1951 team. Saturday’s game between the City College of San Francisco and Foothill College will be dedicated in memory of Toler, who died at the age of 81 in August.
